their representatives to assemble in Sijinak
to attend a jirgah on the 12th May. The
response was encouraging. The jirgah, how-
ever, sat for several days without arriving
at a definite decision. They were divided
in opinion, some holding that renewal of
hostilities would be heading for disaster.
But on the last day of the jirgah the
Marshal stood up to make his momentous
and epoch-making speech. He depicted the
horrors of the day and the untold miseries
of the people who were starving and suffering
at the hands of the bandits. He called upon
the audience in stirring language to stand
up for the national emancipation. Every آزادی
one was moved, fresh enthusiasm was infused
in them and they promised to do their best
in raising a fresh lashkar for the common
cause.
