A.H. ) during the months\nwhich followed, that is during January, Febuary and the half of March\n1842. A. D. ( months of Zilhij, Muharram and Safar 1258. A.H. ) Nayab\nAminullah Khan did his best to reconcile the two clauments to the\nthrone, namely Shahshuja Saduzai and Nawab Mohamed Zaman Khan,\nBarakzai, but he failed till Shahshuja was assassinated by Shujaudo-\nullah, the son of Zaman Khan, between Shahshaheed and Siah Sung\non the morning of Wednesday 15th. April 1843. A.D. ( 23rd . Safar 1258.\nA.H. ) At that time there were two sons of Shahshuja at Kabul :\nPrince Shahpore at Bala Hisar and prince Fateh Jung at Deh Khu-\ndaidad. As a result of the conference which took place at Bala\nHisar, Fateh Jung was elected as the King, and the people took\noath of allegiance to Fateh Jung, with the exception of Nawab Za-\nman Khan and his supporters. Mir Darwaish, the head of the Kabul\nDivines was amongst those who did not accept Fateh Jung as the\nKing. The opinion held by these people was that Shahshuja and his\ndescendents were not capable to rule, because they were too much the\ntools of the foreigners . Without doubt, the personal interests of\nNawab Mohamed Zaman Khan, who considered himself as the leader\nof the people, were the cause of this apparent non-acceptance of\nFateh Jung as King. Matters reached such a pa s that the new King\ncommanded the expulsion of Nawab Mohamed Zaman Khan, but the\nnoted divine Mir Darwaish intervened with Nayab Aminullah Khan,\nLogari. At the interview tempers rose to such an extent that the\nNayab slapped the holy man's face, and the disputi in place of\nbeing matter between the king and Nawab Mohamed Zaman Khan,\nnow shifted between the holy man and the King's Minister, Ami-\nnullah Khan Logari. The report of this struggle soon spread through-\nout the town, and the people turned against the minister and set\nfire to his house, and threatened him with physical violence till he\nwas compelled to take refuge in the Bala Hissar, and a battle bet-\nween Bala Hissar and the people of Kabul started. It was the time,\ntoo, when Sirdar Mohamed Akbar Khan was engaged in battle aga-\ninst General Sale and he expected reinforcements from Kabul ,\nwhereas Kabul was now busy with its own troubles.
