{"book":"adl0981","page":91,"text":"MINISTRY OF TRADE\n\nDURING the third year of the plan the Ministry of Trade dealt with a number of activities pertain-\ning to an increase in trade relations with\nother countries, and national and inter-\nnational exhibitions were held for the\nfurther publicising of Afghan commodi-\nties to consumers at home and abroad.\nHere we present details of some of the\nyear's activities.\n\nFOREIGN TRADE\n\nA. Agreements.\n\nDuring the year several trade agree-\nments have been signed or extended and\nvarious delegations have gone to foreign\ncountries or been received from foreign\ncountries for the furtherance of commer-\ncial and trade relations.\n\n(i) A delegation from the Czechoslovak\nGovernment arrived in Kabul to sign an\nagreement and protocol for the exchange\nof goods and prices between the govern-\nments of Afghanistan and Czechoslovakia.\nAfter due discussion and talks between\nthe parties, a barter agreement and\nprotocol for prices was signed on October\n12th, 1958.\n\n(ii) A protocol for the exchange of\ngoods and prices between Afghanistan\nand Poland, which is signed alternately in\nKabul and Warsaw, was extended on\nOctober 21st, 1958, in Kabul when a\nPolish delegation arrived for talks in\nAfghanistan.\n\n(iii) On the invitation of the United\nArab Republic Chamber of Commerce, a\ndelegation headed by the Deputy Minister\nof Planning left for Cairo on December\n8th, 1958, to participate in an economic\nconference held there.\n\n(iv) As a result of an agreement\nbetween Afghanistan and France and with\n\na view to expanding economic relations\nbetween the two countries, an Economic\nand Technical Co-operation Agreement\nwas signed by representatives of both\nsides in Kabul on January 6th, 1959.\n\n(v) An Afghan economic delegation\nparticipated in the annual E.C.A.F.E.\nConference from January 9th to 19th and\nfrom January 21st to February 21st in\nBangkok. An exchange of views took\nplace on the expansion of trade relations\nbetween Asian countries and the possi-\nbilities of exporting and importing goods\nbetween the countries concerned were\nestablished. Direct talks and communi-\ncations took place later between Afghani-\nstan and other participants in the\nConference.\n\n(vi) An Afghan delegation participated\nin the 15th session of the E.C.A.F.E.\nCommittee Meeting held in Australia in\nMarch, 1959.\n\n(vii) A commercial delegation was sent\nto Yugoslavia upon the invitation of the\nYugoslav Government in March, 1959, to\ninspect commercial and industrial\norganisations in that country.\n\n(viii) The Protocol for the Exchange of\nGoods and Prices between Afghanistan\nand the U.S.S.R. was renewed for the\nyear 1959 when a delegation under the\nMinister of Trade visited the U.S.S.R. in\nApril.\n\n(ix) Upon the unofficial invitation of\nthe Italian Government a delegation\nconsisting of representatives of the\nMinistries of Mines and Industries.\nPublic Works and Trade, Da Afghanistan\nBank, Commercial Bank, and the Gulba-\nhar Textile Company went to inspect the\nvarious industries and commercial\norganisations of Italy in June, 1959.\n\n(x) A Japanese technical, co-opera-\ntive and economic delegation came to\n\n88","chars":3091,"image":"https://storage.googleapis.com/adl-page-images/adl0981/00091.jpg","first_page":1,"last_page":109,"title":"Afghan progress in the third year of the plan","permalink":"https://afghanpress.org/book/adl0981/91","canvas":"https://afghanpress.org/iiif/adl0981/canvas/91","source":"https://afghanistandl.nyu.edu/books/adl0981/","source_pdf":"https://afghanistandl.nyu.edu/pdf/adl0981_download.pdf","rights":{"image":{"statement":"Public domain.
