{"book":"adl0981","page":41,"text":"Remains of the 11th Century Minaret of Ghazni\n\n(ii) Ghazni\n\nAn Italian archaeological team, to-\ngether with members of the Kabul\nMuseum, embarked on a study of Ghazni\nin the summer and autumn of 1958. Their\nexcavations were restricted to the palace\nnext to the mausoleum of Sultan Ibrahim.\nMany pieces of embellished marble, stone\nand baked brick found at this site testify\nto the splendour of the Ghaznawi era.\nAlso found there was a stone statue of\n\nShiva, apparently brought to Ghazni from\nIndia around 1,000 A.D. A box with\ndecorative work in copper and silver\nfound in this palace was the first of its\nkind to be found in the whole of Afghani-\nstan. Excavation work in Ghazni is by\nno means over: indeed it has only just\nbegun, and it is expected that in years to\ncome discoveries will be made in ancient\nGhazni, which will throw a great deal of\nlight on a very important period in\nAfghan civilisation.\n\n38","chars":911,"image":"https://storage.googleapis.com/adl-page-images/adl0981/00041.jpg","first_page":1,"last_page":109,"title":"Afghan progress in the third year of the plan","permalink":"https://afghanpress.org/book/adl0981/41","canvas":"https://afghanpress.org/iiif/adl0981/canvas/41","source":"https://afghanistandl.nyu.edu/books/adl0981/","source_pdf":"https://afghanistandl.nyu.edu/pdf/adl0981_download.pdf","rights":{"image":{"statement":"Public domain.
