The religion of Afghanistan is\nthe sacred religion of Islam, and the\nofficial and popular school of religion is\nthe Hanafite School. The King of Afghan\nistan must be a Hanafi Muslim by belief.\nFollowers of other religions, such as\nHindus and Jews, residing in Afghanistan\nalso enjoy protection provided they do\nnot violate the ordinary rules of conduct\nand propriety.\nArticle 2. The Afghan Government\nenjoys complete independence in the\nadministration of its internal and external\naffairs. All places and parts of the\ncountry constitute a single entity under the\ncommand and exalted direction of His\nMajesty the King, and no distinction is\nmade between different parts of the\ncountry.\nArticle 3. The city of Kabul is the\ncapital of Afghanistan, and all residents\nof the country are equal in the eyes of\nthe Government. The residents of the\ncity of Kabul have no special privileges\nas compared with those of other cities\nand towns of Afghanistan.\nArticle 4. The official flag of Afghan\nistan is black, red and green, and bears\nin the centre an ear of wheat, an altar\nand a pulpit.\n\nRIGHTS OF THE KING\n\nArticle 5. In appreciation of the devo\ntion shown and services rendered by His\nMajesty Ghazi Mohammad Nadir Shah\nAfghan, in obtaining the independence\nand deliverance of the land of Afghan\nistan, and in the uprooting of oppression\nand despotism, the Afghan nation in\ngeneral has recognised His Majesty as a\nfit and worthy King of his country and has\naccepted him as such with the greatest\nesteem and respect. His Majesty the King\nat the time of his accession to the throne\nof independent Afghanistan, publicly\nundertook, in the presence of the Repre\nsentatives and Nobility of Afghanistan, to\ncarry on the administration of his royal\ngovernment in accordance with the dic\ntates of the expounders of the sacred\nShariat of the Holy Phophet (Peace be\nupon him) and the Hanafi belief, and the\nConstitution of the country, and to regard\nthe preservation of the independence of\nAfghanistan as his most important duty.\nto be true to his nation and country, and\nnot to violate the above-mentioned\nstipulations.
