Construction work on\nbuildings for the Directorates of Com-\nmunications in Maimana, Kapisa, Khost,\nNangarhar, Herat, Baghlan, Kunduz,\nTalukhan and Pulikhumri, which together\nwill cost over 12,000,000 Afghanis, is\ngoing on.\nThe Ministry has taken a number of\n\nsteps in connection with the training of\npersonnel. A number of young men have\nbeen sent abroad for training in special\nfields and training courses in Kabul have\nbeen flourishing. Of students sent abroad\none has returned after obtaining his\ndoctorate in postal regulations. Three\nothers have returned from Germany after\nstudying channel telephone communica-\ntions. Two young men were sent to\nGermany, two to France and one to\nCzechoslovakia to study various aspects\nof engineering and communications. The\ntraining course on the channel system in\nKabul was attended by ten students who\nwere subsequently employed by the Tele-\nphone Department. Twelve boys and\ngirls trained in teleprinter operation in\nKabul were also employed by the\nMinistry. The Communications School\nrun by the Ministry has made consider-\nable progress during the fourth year of\nthe Plan. The students in the post and\ntelegraph class now number 40. A group\nof young men was selected to study tele-\nphone lines inspection.
