He could not make good his\nescape by means of an aeroplane, as he had\nat first thought, because he was told that\nthe aerodrome was within range of the\nenemy. He was afraid that his passage to\nKandahar would not be a safe one. The\nsnow had fallen deep and the Ghazni-Kabul\nRoad was almost blocked. Moreover, the\nBacha had got wind of his intention and had\ndespatched a few of his men on horses to\nprevent his escape.
